Weddings & Funerals

Life Cycle Events at St. John’s

The marriage and blessing of two people is a holy union; a lifelong, spiritual commitment. The celebration and blessing of a marriage is usually held in the church, normally within the context of Holy Eucharist. At least one member of the couple being married must be a baptized Christian. St. John’s clergy officiate all weddings held in the parish, and may invite other clergy to participate at the family’s request. Couples contemplating marriage at St. John’s should consult with the clergy prior to setting a date, as all planning is done in consultation with parish clergy. The couple will meet with the clergy for several sessions of premarital counseling before the wedding date.

Besides the guidance of our clergy and beautiful building and grounds, St. John’s can provide additional services and support for weddings, including music and rental of the parish hall for a reception or rehearsal dinner. Our Wedding Customary (information packet) outlines the planning process and costs, and lists suggested Bible readings and music.

St. John’s is only available for weddings planned in consultation with and officiated by our parish clergy, and is not available as a rental venue for ceremonies performed outside the Episcopal tradition or with outside officiants.

The Burial of the Dead in the Book of Common Prayer (funeral service) is a series of psalms, lessons, and prayers, and may include the Holy Eucharist. Families work with the clergy to plan the service, and St. John’s can provide suggestions and referrals for scripture readings, hymns, flowers, and other necessities. Our Funeral Customary (information packet) outlines the planning process, costs and suggested readings and music.

It is our privilege to welcome people to St. John’s at the most sacred times of transition and change in their lives. Please contact us for more information about planning a wedding or funeral at St. John’s.
