The Order of St. John is a charitable organization whose main purpose is to support the work of the St. John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, which provides most of the eye care in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. Our guest on June 24 is the Rev’d Canon Nicholas B Porter, KstJ. Nick is the executive director of Jerusalem Peacebuilders (JPB), an interfaith, non-profit organization with a mission to create a better future across religions, cultures, and nationalities, with a focus on Jerusalem. JPB promotes transformational encounters between Israeli, Palestinian and American youth and provides the opportunities, relationships, and skills they need to become future leaders for peace.
All are welcome to this special event free of charge as guests of the Order. Donations (cash or checks to the Order of St. John) will be accepted toward the purchase of a slit lamp (pictured at right), an expensive and essential piece of equipment to be used for eye care for the people of Gaza. After the discussion and reception, we will attend St. John’s regular late afternoon Holy Eucharist in the Cloister Garden.
