Stephen Ministers

Stephen Ministers are parishioners trained in the art of intentional listening. They are available by referral through the clergy to people in a time of special need. Stephen Ministers are not counselors, nor are they problem solvers: their ministry is to listen in a non-judgmental way at a time when what one might need most is simply someone to listen.

Stephen Ministers meet monthly for supervisory sessions and on-going training. All conversations with Stephen Ministers are kept in confidence. St. John's Stephen Ministers follow training prescribed by the ecumenical Stephen Ministers' organization.

Prayer Shawl knitters

Prayer shawls are knitted by parishioners during prayer, both in group settings and by people knitting in places convenient for their schedules. Prayer shawls are offered to those who are ill or who are experiencing a time of special need. To join the knitters please contact Cindy Lawler by calling the parish office or sending her a note via email.
