Helping hands in our community
As a parish rich in time, talents, and treasure, St. John’s has been involved in local outreach activities for a long time. Responding to the call to serve others, many individuals volunteer on boards of non-profit agencies that meet local needs. Many others participate inSt. John’s outreach initiatives.
We believe that partnering with very well run agencies that serve some of the neediest populations in Greater Hartford is the most effective way for us to make an impact in our community. St. John’s has partner relationships with the following agencies:
· Covenant to Care’s Adopt a Social Worker Program. Covenant to Care assists with basic needs of abused, neglected, and impoverished children and their families.
· Family Life Education, which provides food, childcare, transportation, direct service, advocacy, education/career planning, crisis intervention for underprivileged young mothers and their children in Frog Hollow, Parkville and similar neighborhoods.
· Loaves & Fishes Ministries, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive human services to the poor in Hartford.
· Y-US, for children who have experienced abuse or trauma. After school programs are provided for 8-15 yr olds including dinner, tutoring and emotional and behavioral support.
St. John’s also sponsors on-going collection drives of goods and non-perishable food items for local food pantries and shelters. We fund ESOL classes held in our church, offered and run by the Town of West Hartford for people in our neighborhood.
We welcome the participation of any and all individuals who want to share in our community service and outreach activities.
