Children's Religious Education

Religious education for children of age up to 5th grade is provided nearly every Sunday morning throughout the academic school year from 9:30am - 10:20am. Programs are offered in a variety of ways, depending on the age of the children and the learning activity that is scheduled for the day. An explanation of learning goals for each age range is outlined below.

Word Alive brings children in grades K-4 together for a lively exploration of the Gospel with activities and crafts during the sermon of each Sunday's 10:30am service; young people are encouraged to receive Holy Communion with their families.

The Bible (in age appropriate versions) is the text for guiding our young people to become empathetic, compassionate adults. Lessons are supplemented with crafts and activities, which may include cooking, drama, building projects, as well as more traditional arts and crafts projects.

The learning goals for each child's age group include:
Infants & Toddlers (up to age 3): A wonderful, warm safe environment under the direction of Vida Razazi is offered for our youngest members each Sunday. Parents volunteer on a rotating schedule to assist with nursery care.
Good Shepherd (ages 3-5): Children are introduced to Bible stories through music, pictures and drama.
Grades 1-3: Connections between Bible stories and the children's world are made.
Grades 4-5: Christian tradition and ethics are explored as young people learn how Scripture informs today's issues and culture.
